There were two reasons to add spice to the whole theory: Horses and catapults. Trebuchet is a better version of catapults. The difference is in mechanism and power. There is the technique of seesaw employed in which a counterpoise is heavily built. The fulcrum is a fixed rod with shifting diversions. That is necessary to set the distance according to the position of the object the stones will be hurled.

The slinging arm is supported by a flexible carrier with a rapid lubricated dispenser. It is weighed in by loads of stones and other hard objects. When the pulley trigger is released, the counterpoise helps balance the throw of the weight. Impact of the stones is a matter of mathematical calculation. That involves height, potential energy, kinetic energy, length and weight. Even the stones nowadays do not come cheap, and so it is logical to invest in the relevant amount of stone weight.

Trebuchet, or inspired catapult, is a wonderful contraption. The art to build a Trebuchet involves using a counterweight to throw an equal and even more weight to a specific destination is a great idea. The difference in weight is obviously due to certain changes in calibration, length of the middle stationed rod and the pulley power. If it has been empowered by dynamo or turbine, weight extraction would be huge. Almost incredible!

Funny thing is that it is not today’s contraption. It was conceived by BC people, and they managed to put their own designs on paper. Even if you sit and make careful reading of their manuscripts, you will be taken back by their sharpness. Little wonder then that in olden wars, armies would fear the seize catapults more than anything else. Also, the latest recruits, thought to be more dispensable than the experienced breed, would be positioned on ramparts. They would face the stones and often get crushed. But the message would be conveyed that a war is on.

Since the thirteenth century, Trebuchet took a refined form. The word is a misnomer as they would often cause brutal effects. 300 pound of stones delivered randomly at a time from numerous Trebuchets would break open the most impregnable forts. Even today, houses may be earthquake and fire proof, but how will they be power proof?

Rival armies would build Trebuchet to cater to their volcanic needs. They would make the carrier huge and hurl dead men and animals. That way, the impact would be more and the victims would loathe that. Just imagine, how would a person react to throat-cut men and bloodied animals thrown on himself?
Leonardo Da Vinci gave the exact picture, being the brilliant person that he was, of how a Trebuchet would function in old days. His mechanism was patented by many further armies. They would make it all the more interesting by spreading pestilence through dead horses, cats and rats. Rats, particularly, would cause epidemic and plague, causing consternation in those times.

They would also innovate. Boiling oil would be hurled for little distance and the advancing army would stop dead in the tracks. Nobody likes to be greeted with boiling oils! The houses of commoners would be burnt with flaming balls an people crushed and disfigured with glasses and stones. Fear was the key in ancient times. Olden philosophers would use their brains in conceiving contraptions that would amaze and frighten the commoners. Archimedes, widely regarded for his principles on buoyancy, used lens to burn down ships. That was too much to chew in those times. It cannot be summed up as top how conceived it, but the seize catapults was one of the two chilling inventions of those times, the second being guillotine. Weights of 100 to 200 kilograms would be placed. It is not hard to imagine what destruction that kind of weight would wreak. There was also the subject of flames, dead animals and manure dung. Either the victim would die or feel very ungainly with human dung poured on him. The weight would break even the strongest defense and people would take flight at the sight of Trebuchet. Those would did not have Trebuchets would seek theories on how to build a Trebuchet from the same fellows during peace.

It started as early as 600 AD and Chin was the initiator. The art spread through the warriors that would move everywhere. Indian wars were notable in use of Trebuchet. Even the British wars did have earnest use of Trebushay. Yes, in the initial days as science was not very affluent, things would often become a mess. The length of slings would be long, hurling bags would be awkwardly flexible, cross braces would be very ineptly made and projectile movement would also be much unbidden. After many options and attempts, things got better and Trebuchet plans became more long reaching.

Armies would move in the wee hours and suddenly start their Mission Destruction. Stones of inordinate sizes would be thrown with harsh effect and there would be immense casualty. This led to the reference of wars with destruction. When nuclear wars take place today, we are automatically taken to those times and understand how the instinct has been ingrained in us.
